We used to be friends

Quiet around here isn’t it? Still waiting for SFX and Death Ray to review OM and Impressions, although that should happen soon… I hope.
In the meantime I’ve delivered a short story and the first of two, maybe three, audio play scripts. Can’t talk about either of those yet, but you’ll know as soon as I can.
And I have begun Children’s Crusade with a flashback/prologue featuring a certain popular eleven-year-old psychopath. So Rowles fans relax – you will get a fix in book three.
Behind the curtain, Rebellion, who run Abaddon, have bought Solaris Books and installed my Afterblight editor, the wise and wonderful Jon Oliver as commissioning editor. Which is nice. Between the soon-to-be-reborn Solaris and the big-splash-making Angry Robot, it’s a good time to be a mid-list sci-fi writer pondering novel ideas for 2010.
In other business I have fallen deeply, hopelessly, passionately in love with Veronica Mars, easily my favourite telly show since Buffy. The first season was a deliciously perfect thing. Don’t just take my word for it, Joss Whedon agrees, and then agrees more cogently.
Finally, Stephen Fry writes brilliantly about the agony of writing and includes this quote from Thomas Mann: “A writer is a person for whom writing is more difficult than for other people.” Testify, brother.
