This week I

Blog of the week

As if I needed more reasons to love Dr Brooke Magnanti, she blogged about what is and isn’t a geek this week.

“Real geeks aren’t only focussed in technology areas. If you know someone who can discern tulipwood from kingwood at thirty paces, then that my friend is a geek and it don’t matter what fucking phone he owns.”

Testify, sister!

Honourable mention: The Pornokitsch interview with m’colleague Paul Kane, part two of which includes yours truly.

Video of the week

After some deliberation, the winner has to be OKGo’s new video. Not entirely sure about the song, but the video’s staggering. Just really jaw droppingly clever and brilliant and funny. Wild applause.

Honourable mentions

The BSG/Sabotage mashup is amazing, especially if, like me, you know the original video almost frame by frame.

And Dan Barber’s TED talk ‘How I fell in love with a fish’ is thought provoking, inspiring and very funny indeed.

(NPH’s Oscars opening number would be in the list if only I could find a decent video of it.)

Oh God NO! moment of the week

Janeane Garofalo uses botox. I’m not judging her, she’s fine by me. But what sick, mad world makes a woman as funny, clever and gorgeous as she is do that to herself in order to get work? The pic that accompanies the article kind of sums up the reasons NOT to do botox.

Tweet of the week

@AIannucci, on his way to LA to see if he’d won an Oscar: “At the airport.Got my Oscar tickets in my pocket, my girl by my side, and 3 packets of heroin hidden up my anus. What could possibly go wrong?”

Honourable mention: @ConanOBrien “If I had a show, I’d tweet about which Oscar winner is coming on tonight. Instead, here’s my favorite frozen vegetable: Peas!”

Glee quote of the week

Goes to Kurt: “I don’t know why I find his stupidity charming. I mean, he’s cheating off a girl who thinks the square root of four is rainbows.”
